Friday, October 30th Litteraturhuset in Skien visit from Sofi Oksanen!
Based on the book Putin's War on Women, the Finnish-Estonian author meets literary critic, author and journalist Erle Marie Sørheim for a conversation about war, power, propaganda and the vulnerable position of women in Putin's Russia.
In Putin's War on Women, Oksanen examines how the Kremlin uses misogyny, sexual violence, and oppression as political tools. She places Russia's war in Ukraine in a larger historical context, showing how colonialism, imperialism, and control over women's bodies and voices are interconnected. The book is also a strong case for highlighting women's experiences and narratives of war and abuse.
Sofi Oksanen is one of the Nordic countries' most award-winning and internationally renowned authors. Her books have been translated into 46 languages and have sold more than two million copies worldwide. The Times has described her as " a literary phenomenon " – a description she has lived up to ever since her international breakthrough with the novel Utrenskning (2008), for which she received the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
The conversation is led by Erle Marie Sørheim , author, journalist and literary critic at Aftenposten. She has a master's degree in philosophy and aesthetics from the University of Oslo and has written, among other things , Until Berlin falls. Norwegians in the Third Reich and Berlin. 100 unique experiences . Sørheim has extensive experience as a literary critic, speaker and conversation leader, and was also involved in starting the comics magazine Empirix.
The conversation will be held in English.
