In “Ukraine. A Winter Journey,” Fatland takes us through a country at war, during the coldest winter Ukraine has experienced in 16 years. With her close relationship with the country – she first visited it 25 years ago – she has spent a long winter with a people who refuse to be broken. The book provides powerful and honest encounters with soldiers on Europe’s front lines and with people trying to live ordinary lives in the midst of war.


Fatland is a social anthropologist and one of Norway's most widely read and recognized non-fiction writers. "The Sailor" was Norway's best-selling book in 2024 and received the Booksellers' Award. His travelogues "Sovjetistan", "Grensen" and "Høyt" have been translated into 26 languages ​​and have reached a large international audience.
