BCUC – Skien World

BCUC, or Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, combines indigenous funk, socially conscious hip hop, and punk rock energy from Soweto, South Africa. This won't just be a concert - it'll be an experience!

From a shipping container in Soweto to stages around the world
The band began practicing in a shipping container a stone's throw from the church where Desmond Tutu organized the escape of some of Soweto's most wanted anti-apartheid activists. Since then, they have grown into a celebrated and deeply respected band, known for creating intense connections with audiences around the world.

Outspoken lyrics meet strong percussion grooves
“ We make music for the people, by the people, with the people, ” says vocalist Nkosi “Jovi” Zithulele. It’s an apt motto for the band’s expression – outspoken lyrics delivered with punk-like intensity, over a massive and hypnotic Afro-fusion soundscape. The music is both raw and nuanced, driven by strong percussive grooves and the inventive, agile bass playing of Motsere Jan Nzimande.

Uncompromising and electric concerts
For BCUC, music is both a hedonistic trance and a tool for political and spiritual liberation. They lift up the voices of those rarely heard, especially workers at the bottom of society. All this is conveyed through concerts that are as uncompromising as they are electric.

"Without a doubt the best live act I saw" - Gilles Peterson

“Loved their set, it was one of my highlights of a great weekend” – Nick Dewey, Glastonbury Festival

"Guaranteed to touch untapped corners of your soul" - Okayafrica

Their sound is both subtle and hard-hitting, centered around their percussionists and the endlessly inventive, agile bass playing of Matsaezi Jan Nzimande – a true master of the instrument.

BCUC sees their music as a hedonistic trance, but also as a weapon for political and spiritual liberation. They address the harsh realities of the voiceless, particularly the plight of uneducated workers at the bottom of the social ladder.

On October 28th, BCUC will fill the stage with insanely talented musicians. This is a long-traveled and literally unique concert experience that will really make a difference.

We highly recommend this concert!
