Skien World: Kajsa Balto

Old traditions meet the modern world in Kajsa Balto's musical expression, where joik and North Sami text are presented in a soulful sound.

In recent years, Kajsa has made a name for herself with her distinctive vocal expression, earning praise from many quarters for her releases and live performances. She performs her material with an enchanting intensity, creating powerful concert experiences that leave listeners eager for more.

Kajsa Balto is a Sami artist who grew up in Oslo, a background that has influenced her approach to Sami traditional music. Since her debut in 2017, she has written new music based on traditions from Kárášjohka, where her father comes from, and brought out joiks from her own family. In recent years, Kajsa has collaborated with, among others, the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra and the Broadcasting Orchestra, and toured Norway and abroad with her permanent band consisting of cello, guitar and drums.

"An excellent example of how music knows no boundaries and becomes a common language across cultures" (Folkemusikk)

"Kajsa Balto's album "Buot Eallá" was 2020's most magical moment in Norwegian music" (NRK Kultur)

"Music to be enchanted by" (musikknyheter.no)
