Scheen Jazz Orchestra & Thea Grant
This fall, Scheen Jazz Orchestra has the pleasure of premiering a brand new commissioned work by the Norwegian rising star Thea Grant. The work, with the working title Century Caves, is a poetic and powerful musical journey in which Grant also participates as a vocalist. The music explores the encounter between man and nature, past and present, dream and reality–inspired by the shapes, textures and movements in the landscape around us. The orchestra is this time reinforced with Anna Ueland on synth/vocals and Gard Hvammen on keys.
ABOUT THEA GRANT
Thea Grant, from Gvarv in Telemark, is a composer, lyricist and vocalist who graduated from the Jazzlinja in Trondheim (2019), and has quickly established herself as a distinct voice on the Norwegian and international music scene. She is behind the music in JUNO (Jazzland Recordings), has collaborated with Alpaca Ensemble, Eirik Hegdal and Trondheim Voices, among others, and has composed for dance companies in Norway and the USA. In recent years, she has contributed to seven albums and is known for her distinctive expression – with a fascination for surrealism, symbolism and the borderland between dream and reality. Scheen Jazz Orchestra has distinguished itself as one of Norway's most ambitious and innovative jazz orchestras. The band has toured with Ambrose Akinmusire, performed an all-night concert on NRK, and is in a strong artistic period with new works, international tours and upcoming releases.
Among the highlights:
New commissioned works from Ståle Storløkken, Fredrik Ljungkvist and André Roligheten
