Skiensjazzdraget: Julian Haugland kvintett

Julian Haugland from Evje has just passed 30, but composes and plays confidently, with forward thinking and innovation. Here you get lively melodies in intelligent packaging, hard swinging and with several surprises along the way.

In his creation, Haugland draws audible inspiration from the Brecker Brothers, Hiromi, Kenny Garrett and Allan Holdsworth, but has his own, clear ideas about where the music should go. On his debut album under his own name, he brought with him not unknown Seamus Blake, Bjørn Vidar Solli and Jon Wikan. In March 2025, his second, Learning, was released with an excellent band consisting of musicians from Norway, Denmark and Korea.

Behind the drum kit you will find Jongkuk Kim, an award-winning, Billboard-nominated drummer, improviser, composer and electronic musician from Korea, who has played with Kurt Elling and Aaron Parks, among others. Pianist Rasmus Sørensen is originally from Denmark, but has been an active musician on the American jazz scene for several years. Saxophonist Erlend Kongtorp and guitarist Amund Totland are two exciting new Norwegian jazz names.

We are looking forward to having this brilliant quintet on tour in Agder, Vestfold and Telemark!
