Advent and the Christmas season are, for many of us, about traditions. A reunion with Putti Plutti Pott has become such a tradition. This year too, the stage will be filled with charming little elves who all have their own struggles during the hectic Christmas season. We are going on a journey across all the blues.
This lovely family musical is a great Christmas tradition in Ibsenhuset with hundreds of excited little audiences in the hall. You'll have to travel far to find the same kind of pre-Christmas fun. Great songs, beautiful scenery and funny costumes.
It was in 1969 that Per Asplin wrote and composed the fairy tale musical about the little elf boy Putti Plutti Pott and his journey to Uncle Per, Petter and Caroline with Santa's magic beard. The fairy tale first came as a book, then as an LP record and cassette, then the TV program. At countless requests, Per Asplin then created the music-dramatic version with many festive, new song and dance numbers, and an expanded and exciting plot. Since 1987, the stage version has been played every year on all the largest stages throughout Norway. It has long since become a Christmas classic to the delight of new generations of children of all ages.
Once upon a time there was a little Santa named Putti Plutti Pott – Putti after his great-grandfather and Plutti after his great-great-grandfather – and Pott as his last name. But what was so extra fun about little Putti Plutti Pott is his grandfather, because that's Santa Claus himself.
And now you're going to hear how Putti Plutti Pott came to meet Petter and little Caroline, who are quite ordinary human children like you, and how the whole of Nisseland was turned upside down – and it was only just that Santa Claus made it to all the good children on Christmas Eve.
It was an evening just before Christmas. It had been snowing heavily all day, and everything had become so soft and nice and quiet, with exciting blue clouds in the pale moonlight. Inside the living room it was safe and good, and a big fire crackled and crackled festively in the fireplace.
Petter and Caroline had helped their mother bake syrup cookies, and now they were sitting quite full and content around the rose-painted grand piano, listening to Uncle Per, who played and sang and told a wonderful Christmas story – about a fantastic journey across all the blues.
“Do you want to join us?” said Uncle Per.
– Yes, the children replied, we would be more than happy to.
– So hang on to me, said Uncle Per. And then he sang:
"If you want to join, hang out with me,
The Christmas adventure awaits you. We're going ...»
So this is how the Christmas adventure begins. Soon after, Putti Plutti Pott appears in the middle of Uncle Per's living room, and we join Uncle Per, Putti, Petter and little Caroline on an exciting, fun and adventurous journey to Nisseland.
