JazzK(l)assen: Jazz i Grenland

A concert lecture for anyone curious about how Grenland became one of the country's most active and creative jazz areas – told by people who have been in the middle of it.

How did a vibrant jazz scene emerge in Grenland – and how has it developed into the force it is today? This evening, JazzK(l)assen will explore the history of Grenland's jazz scene from the early 1970s to the present, with audio clips, pictures, anecdotes and music samples.

We take a closer look at the pioneers who laid the foundation for a strong local environment – from La Boheme and the region's big band, to the emergence of Grenland Jazzforum, Skiensjazzdraget, Scheen Jazzorkester, Nylyd and Parkjazz.

Along the way, we hear stories about enthusiasts, clubs, bands, collaborations and the many meetings between generations of musicians that have shaped the region's distinctive jazz enthusiasm.

The band this evening consists of:
André Kassen – saxophones
Guttorm Guttormsen – saxophones/clarinet/flute
Jon Øystein Rosland – saxophone
Rune Klakegg – piano
Jan Olav Renvåg – bass
Stig Sjøstrøm – drums
